Summertime!

Ya'll ready for summer?? How about that hair?! There are some things you need to keep in mind as we move into the warmer months of the year when it comes to taking care of those locks.

Clients ask all the time.. is it better to highlight or color hair before or after a week at the beach? I say..it depends. If you plan on taking a ton of photos where you want to look your best consider doing it before your trip. If not, I'd say wait. Spending that much time soaking up the sun will inevitably give you that bleached out or "brassy" look most are trying to avoid. Either way you should keep in mind that color treated hair, especially highlighted is more susceptible to sun damage. There are a few things you can do to keep your hair in its best possible condition but still enjoy some fun in the sun.

1. The most obvious, wear a hat! Keeping your hair covered up as much as possible will help you deal with minimal sun effects. Nothing is 100% but this is a good place to start.

2. Use a UV protection product. We recommend the Le Maçon Leave In treatment. It not only provides UV protection but also acts as a detangler, leave in conditioner and color preserver. Dampen hair slightly then apply 1-2 pumps roots to ends. Comb through and place in a braid or a bun for a fun and easy style. $32 at www.lemaconproducts.com

3. Consider a Keratin or Brazilian Blow Dry treatment. Yes they can be pricey, around $200 but they last 3-6 months depending on your hair and how well you follow the maintenance routine. This treatment requires less heat to smooth or tame your hair, so you get that blow and go style you've always wanted. That means you could get it in April and it should last you ALL SUMMER! I'd recommend AT LEAST one of these options if not all 3! Worst case, I see you in the salon several times over the summer for conditioning treatments and toners. The choice is yours!
